Ithaca New York - July & October* 2007

On the southeastern shore of Cayuga Lake, looking north from east Shore Park.

Swimming at Treman State Park, just south of Ithaca, is a delight for the body on a hot summer day.
Women can legally go topless, if as the lifeguard says, "you behave yourself".

Hard to believe it... Ithaca Falls is right within the Ithaca city limits!

Ludlow Falls

Kevin preparing for the awesome view!

Looking east into the gorge above Taughannock Falls, from the walking bridge.

The area we call "High Vista" near the southern end of Skaneateles Lake.

Apples at a nearby farm. *

Another vista!

Old stone cottage near Keuka Lake. *

Ludgate Farms is a gravel-floored health food store just east of town where local berries may be found.
Here we found red raspberries, sour cherries (I ate the whole box!), gooseberries,
figs, black and red currants, blueberries and strawberries.

Farmers Market!

The pier!

The monthly guided tour of the Eco Village in Ithaca.

Swimming pond at the Eco Village.

Local hayfield.

This is the hayfield that adjoins our farm on the east side.

On the right are our woodlands that we bought as a privacy buffer along Conlon Road in Lansing.

The newly constructed gravel driveway entrance on Conlon Road. *

Our new winding gravel driveway is made from "crusher-run" gravel which sets up firmer than regular washed gravel. *

We're located at 835 Conlon Road in Lansing, New York. *

Piles of stone are everywhere in New York state ... what a great building material. *

Here, we are bush-hogging (clearing with a tractor and a pull behind heavy duty mower). We cleared two acres, in the middle of our total of seven acres.

More bush-hogging... here we are facing north. The solar house will be built in the distance,
at the far north end of our field, and the main windows will face south of course.

Clearing the edge of the woods back twenty feet to its original fenceline. *

Clearing non-native Tartarian Honeysuckle from the north field. *

Our newly cleared tree line opens up the view towards the western hills. This is where the Bergey windmills are going. *

An autumnal sunrise. *

Home sweet home for now! *

The entrance to the "Sunset Trail".

The "Sunset Trail" winds trough various habitats... wet and shady with ferns... sunny with raspberries... or dry and densely shaded.

Our little frog pond. *

Sensitive Ferns along the trail.

Towering Quaking Aspens sound like waterfalls when the wind blows gently.

I'm in love with this Sugar Maple!

We have thirty or so Black Walnut trees that are old enough to produce nuts like these.
